Body Condition Scoring is an important tool used to assess your herd’s health status and support decision making on farms.

Maintaining targets can ensure your herd is able to perform at its best not only in milk production but also in reproductive performance. You see your herd every day so it can be hard to make a subjective assessment of their Body Condition. Because of this Dairy NZ has put together a calibration programme to ensure that the same standard of Body Condition Scoring is used nationwide.

To become a certified Body Condition Scorer you must first be trained and pass a BCS assessment, each year you must pass a calibration test to insure accuracy has been maintained. We have two vets who are accredited Body Condition Score assessors, who can come to your farm and score your herd.
